Is this for me?

We want the future of professions to represent the full breadth of society.

We know this doesn't currently happen because of elitist structures in the industry and the exclusionary economics of unaffordable accommodation in big cities like London, where most opportunities are concentrated.

That's where we come in.

If you've got a new opportunity, internship or are starting a job and you're eligible to use our scheme then we can get you enrolled on our host-mentorship scheme so you don't have to say no to the career opportunities of a lifetime! We'll work with you and your employer or school/university (or even track down grants if your placement doesn’t come with funding) to get your stay funded and we'll match you with a mentor who can help you make the most of your experience.

The rest...is up to you!

Meet our hosts!

What are the benefits of host-mentorship?

  • No need for a guarantor or deposit plus PressPad support 24/7.
  • Competitive pricing - the PressPad guarantee means its cheaper than every private room alternative (Airbnb, hostels, Premier Inn).
  • Easy and stress-free way to find accommodation in convenient locations
  • Safe and productive environment while you work - WiFi, linen, desk & own set of keys standard.
  • Holistic out-of-hours and impartial mentoring gives you perspective and someone to talk to about your internship experience.
  • We hope your host-mentor will become your ‘media mum or dad’ - we're thinking help with CVs, references, advice on next steps NOT cooking you dinner or making your bed...unless they offer!

Staying with another media professional while you complete an internship may lead to future opportunities like your next internship or job. The media is a networked industry and we want to help you open up those connections and opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I have to answer all the questions before my account is approved?

Yes! We know we ask for a lot of information.
Most of it is for our reporting though, and not for others to see.

Without data about who our users are, we will struggle to get more funding to support our mission. Do note that we only use anonimised data in our reporting.

You also have the option to tell us you’d rather not say in each dropdown, and that’s also fine with us.

We take data protection very seriously, and you can read more about it here.

Do you conduct Health & Safety checks in accomodations?

Not exactly.

We recommend to all our hosts that they install/check the batteries of their carbon monoxide alarm and smoke alarms, in compliance with the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957.

We also advise them to conduct an annual gas safety checks & electrical appliance tests.
It’s not a legal requirement but it’s safer for everyone!

I don’t have an internship lined-up yet, can I start looking for accomodation?

Yes and no.

You can only browse the accomodations available for the dates you entered on the search page.

You will need to provide the internship dates and a proof of internship (email/contract/offer letter) to unlock the booking page.

Until then, though, you can add the rest of the details to your profile! Make it punchy and informative, so that hosts get to know a bit more about you before you move in.

Hearing loss, vision loss or mobility: how do I know if the accomodation is accessible to me?

While we know not every house/flat is accessible, we will support you to ensure you get the same access to PressPad as anyone else.

That means that if no rooms available for the duration of your internship or placement is accessible, we will directly go to all our hosts with accessible accomodation to see if their spare room is free.

If you have any further questions, please email interns@presspad.co.uk

What if things aren’t working out with my host?

We will provide support in case of any issues, acting as a mediator to resolve any problems and also have a list of external organisations we can refer you to if you need any extra help.

Can I book an extra few days on the platform each side of my placement/internship?

Absolutely! We let interns book up to two days each side of their placement/internship. This way, no stress to move in or out.

How long can I stay with a host for?

Most placements are between 5 days to a month, so that’s what you can expect from our hosts.

If an internship lasts for more than a month, we ask you to use your first few weeks with a host to find a more permanent accomodation.

There will always be exceptional circumstances, and we will do our best to help, but long stays it can’t be the rule as hosts may have other commitments.
