So you’ve signed up to be a PressPad host mentor – we can’t wait to have you work with us! There are certain responsibilities that come with the role of a PressPad mentor, however, we also wanted to outline what is not expected of you.
Feeding or providing for interns
Feeding or providing for your intern is definitely not expected of you – you are simply providing accommodation for the intern and the intern will provide for themselves, independently of you. Similarly, they will be expected to bring their own toiletries and anything else that they may need. It may be nice to organise dinner or drinks together as a social event, but this is purely at your discretion.
Hosting an intern if things aren’t working out
If any issues arise with your intern, we can provide support in any case and act as a mediator to resolve any problems and can offer support to both parties. Please Email support@presspad.co.uk or call this number 7 days a week: +44 (0) 2034882521
Change your living situation or arrangements
As long as you disclose this on your listing, it is fine if you may have a partner/friends/family staying over. If you have someone over the age of 18 permanently living with you, we ask that they also provide a DBS check to ensure the highest level of safety for everyone.
Hosting interns for a long-term commitment
Unless otherwise agreed, most placements are between 5 days to a month. If internships last more than a month, the intern will be asked to look for more permanent accommodation whilst they are staying with you short-term. We understand you may have other commitments and as a general rule do not ask hosts to host an intern for more than the initially agreed placement period.
Disclose any information to potential interns other than what we suggest
On your public profile, you only need to provide your listing details, details of where you grew up or what you studied and your job title/organisation/area that you work in. Your profile photo and name won’t be available until you’ve approved the intern to stay with you.
Provide medical or mental health support
If any safeguarding issues arise (such as medical or mental health issues), please contact PressPad as we have a number of measures in place to assist you in this scenario.
However, if you are faced with a life-threatening emergency, you will need to follow the steps below:
Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk. You should also call 999 in situations of violence that seem like they could get out of hand.
Find out about 999 here.
Entertain or make social plans for/with the intern
Whilst it might be nice to organise occasional plans with the intern, they will be living independently and will likely organise their own plans whilst staying with you.
Tolerate rude or disrespectful behaviour
If an intern breaks any pre-agreed house rules or acts disrespectfully towards you, please contact please Email support@presspad.co.uk or call this number 7 days a week: +44 (0) 203488252. We can act as a mediator in this situation.
Provide transport for the intern
The intern will be responsible for getting themselves to and from their placement.
