As a way to show our support of the Black Lives Matter movement we, at PressPad, have compiled a non-exhaustive list of talented Black journalists in order to elevate their voices. PressPad crowdsourced this list on Twitter which will be turned into a thread shown below. The thread will be updated over the next week weeks with more brilliant journalists to follow and commission!
NADINE WHITE
Nadine White, a news reporter at HuffPostUK writes eloquently on current affairs, race, and social justice. She is also a PressPad ambassador. Nadine was previously a journalist at The Voice newspaper – Britain’s biggest black publication. She has written about the protests happening at the moment in America and beyond for HuffPost. Read it here. Nadine showed her drive to get to the bottom of systematic inequalities in a question she put to the Health Secretary Matt Hancock at the Coronavirus Daily Briefing on May 27th. The question was regarding the information from an investigation that revealed that the BAME community is statistically more likely to be stopped by police if they are out breaking the government lockdown rules. SHINGI MARARIKE
Shingi Mararike is currently a news reporter at The Sunday Times. He writes inquisitively about youth violence, social mobility and race. Shingi helped to launch News UK’s diversity initiative, the News Academy, and was hired as The Sunday Time’s first apprentice in 2017. His most recent article looks at the success of handling the current coronavirus in Guernsey, an island in the English Channel. You can read it here. ISABEL TOGOH
Isabel Togoh is currently a breaking news reporter at Forbes. She covers Europe and the U.S and previously was a reporter for HuffPost UK, the Press Association, and a night reporter at the Guardian. Her most recent article looks at #BlackOutTuesday and the possibility as highlighted by music artists of it obscuring Black Lives Matter posts. You can read it here.
KAFUI OKPATTAH
Kafui Okpattah is an investigative journalist. He is currently working at the BBC and is a British Journalism Review award winner. His recent work looks at unemployment rates rising and the effect of this on young people because of the current pandemic. Kafui also did an insightful story on children being recruited by criminals to launder money.
AAMNA MOHDIN
Aamna Mohdin is currently a news reporter at The Guardian where she writes stories and also does live blogging. She has written extensively about the coronavirus. Aamna previously worked as a reporter for Quartz where she covered politics and culture and has also worked for the New Scientists and Scidev.net. AYOMIKUN ADEKAIYERO
Ayomikun Adekaiyero is PressPad’s social media editor and is going into his third year of studying journalism at the University of Kent’s Centre for Journalism. He currently runs an entertainment blog called ‘Diary of a Procrastinator’ and enjoys writing about culture, entertainment and social issues. You can read Ayomikun’s latest blog post on here.
CHARLIE BRINKHURST-CUFF
Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff is currently the head of editorial at gal-dem, a British online and print magazine produced by Women of Colour and non-binary People of Colour. She is also a Scott Trust Bursary alumnus and winner of the 2016 Georgina Henry Award for Innovation in Journalism. MICHA FRAZER-CARROLL
Micha Frazer-Carroll is currently the First Person and Opinions Editor at gal-dem. She writes on a range of topics including race, feminism, pop culture and social issues. Kwame Amoah Mensah is a freelance multimedia journalist and filmmaker. He has worked for the BBC as a freelance broadcast assistant. He is also a freelance assistant news editor at Channel Four. Kwame studied for an MA in multimedia journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University. He was also a PressPad intern!

Jasmine Lee-Zogbessou is a NCTJ accredited journalist who has interviewed the likes of Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx. She is also a PressPad ambassador. Kumba Kpakima is a freelance journalist who is currently an assistant news editor at ITN. She has worked for Sky News, Vice and the Evening Standard so far in her career. Kumba was also a guest panellist for Woman Deliver and also hosted the Woman Deliver’s Live 2019 Candid conversation in Vancouver. Kumba also was nominated for the UK’s #30toWatch Forbes’ media and marketing Young Journalists of the Year for her documentary about the knife crime epidemic in the UK.
